| What
does the Island have to offer. What doesn't it have. It is
steeped in history from the times of the Romans -their remains
can be seen at the ancient town of Brading; to Carisbrooke
Castle where Charles the First was held until his return to
London for execution and Osbome House at East Cowes where
Queen Victoria lived, and much more.
Then
there is the scenery to see -which you will be hard put to
better anywhere else in Britain. Travel to West Wight and
see the cliffs from the Military Road; go inland from Freshwater
to Newport and travel the Island's spine with views across
the dales to the Solent and Southampton. See the Needles Lighthouse
and Alum Bay with its famous coloured sands. Visit the picturesque
villages with their thatched cottages that
are scattered across the Island. For the golfer, there is
an abundance of golf courses on the Island and for the gardeners,
the Ventnor Botanical Gardens. If your interest is walking
or cycling, you will not do better than the Island where its
network of public footpaths and cycle routes are acknowledged
as some of the best in the country .When all
that is done, visit the Island's Vineyards -all this on an
island that is just 23 miles long and 13 miles wide.
For
the family, there is so much to do that your holiday just
will not be long enough Blackgang Chine; Robin Hill Country
Park; the Zoo and Tiger Sanctuary; the Brading Waxworks; Model
Railways; Ten Pin Bowling; Multi-plex Cinema- the list is
endless.
The photographs
illustrated on this page are just a sample of what the Island
has to offer, but hopefully they are enough to demonstrate
it's natural beauty and abundance of places to visit and persaude
you that you should book a holiday or short break at the Richmond
Hotel and explore the Island.
